Free Online Learning Resources
The spread of the Coronavirus has shut down schools, museums, and theaters. In this time of quarantine and social distance, however, companies are stepping up to ensure we still have access to education and cultural activities.
Here’s a list of some free online resources to access at home:
Education:
o Khan Academy: Khan Academy is a nonprofit that provides free, world-class education. They are currently offering daily schedules for students aged 2-18 to keep them learning while they’re out of school!
o LitLife: LitLife is a literacy consulting firm that specializes in social-emotional literacy instruction. They have created Google Classroom accessible resources for teachers and families to use with students while learning remotely. Check out their blog for printable PDFs!
o BrainPOP: BrainPOP is an interactive learning resource that makes learning engaging and fun for students K-12. They’re offering free access to their videos, games, and quizzes for schools and families impacted by school closures!
o Tynker: Tynker is an interactive learning website that teaches kids aged 5+ how to code. During school closures, they’re offering free access to premium coding courses!
o FreeSchool: FreeSchool is an educational YouTube channel that exposes children to famous art, classic music, children’s literature, history, and science.
o Kids Learning Tube: Recognized by Lifewire in 2019 as the “Best Overall Educational YouTube Channel,” Kids Learning Tube creates videos to education children of all ages with original music and education. They also have a free app where you can access videos, music, and learning resources such as flash cards!
Museums:
o Getty Museum: The Los Angeles Getty Museum is offering two free virtual tours! They are featuring art works from the 8th-21st century.
o Vatican Museums: The Vatican is offering free virtual 360° tours of their museums and chapels!
o The Louvre: The Louvre is offering free virtual tours of four famous exhibitions!
o The Guggenheim: The Guggenheim is offering free virtual access to the works of Picasso, Mondrian, Koons, and 600+ more artists!
o National Women’s History Museum: It’s still Women’s History Month! Celebrate by checking out this museum’s free online exhibits!
o The Met: Through Google Street View, the Met is offering virtual tours of their exhibitions!
o MoMA: Check out the MoMA’s new exhibitions through Google Arts & Culture!
Music:
o NPR: NPR Music has compiled a list of live audio and video streams from around the world so you can stream live concerts!
o Berlin Philharmonic: Sign up by March 31st and receive free access to all concerts and films from their Digital Concert Hall!
o Metropolitan Opera: The Metropolitan Opera is streaming past performances of their operas for free!
o Scottish Symphony Orchestra: The Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s YouTube page has a free expansive collection of past concerts and has free live streams!
