We hope to continue with our resilience

This week’s email comes from Cora Juettemann, our Operations Development Advisor – encouraging messages about our remote work over the last three months! Thanks, Cora!

Like many organizations, Impact Network’s management staff has been working from home to practice social distancing, lessen the impact of the virus, and ensure our team is safe while continuing to contribute to the continuous development of our pupils and the communities. Yet, the transition has not been without hurdles since it’s rare for organizations to work from home in Zambia. Challenges like poor network, power outages, technical challenges, and other family members at home presented our team with some stumbling blocks along the way. But remote work guidance, out-of-the-box thinking, and working together as a team have helped us to drive our work forward!

Today, I’d like to share with you some thoughts from our operations team, who have worked closely with the academics team to overcome challenges and ensure that everyone is able to work in their new environment. Thanks to an outstanding team that makes up Impact Network!

For my part, it was a challenge to adapt to the new style of working because it was my first time working in such a manner. Working at home it was a challenge because my relatives did not understand what I was doing. They thought like I don't want to help them with some house chores and other home works. I woke up early to do some chores and at 08:00 hours to start my assigned work. Godfrey N. – Operations Coordinator, Petauke

Weekly Zoom meetings are conducted every Monday morning to check on the progress of the work for the previous week and to also outline the general tasks and expectations for the current week. Richard – Operations Officer

As for the first time to have experienced remote work, I have benefited from many things. I've learned how to manage time more efficiently and create valuable work that is appreciated by my colleagues. How important teamwork and communication are, either through phone or other media. Having time to use skills learned from colleagues and coming up with an attractive work output. Godfrey B. – Operations Coordinator, Katete

The transition has been managed through cooperation among the team. Through help from our line managers who are always there when you need help. And working together with my fellow operations coordinators. This transition has been managed through continuous self-discipline. Godfrey N. – Operations Coordinator, Petauke
