I felt fulfilled with my job as a teacher...

For those of you that have been with us since we started our expansion project in partnership with American Institutes for Research (AIR), you might recall that we were supporting a couple of grades at the school. AIR then conducted a randomized controlled trial evaluation with incredible results, that we’ve shared with you before. This year marks the final year of primary school for this research cohort of students and we are celebrating this by sharing stories from students, parents and teachers that have been with us since 2017, when that study started.

Next up, a Q&A with one of our amazing teachers!

Teacher Memory Njobvu at Manjazi Community School

What inspired you to become a teacher?

I was inspired by the love I have for the children. It helps me to be with learners most of the times, helping them in different areas such as in reading and writing.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your teaching experience at our school that has left a lasting impression on you?

I have many memorable moments but one which stands out is a time when the school had a parent engagement day. On this day, almost all my learners were able to perform the assigned tasks before the parents. This made me so happy. Seeing the parents smiles and laughter on this day made me feel happier because I felt fulfilled with my job as a teacher and that I was able to bring joy not only on the learners but also on the parents who have high hopes on their children.

How do you believe our school's teaching methods and curriculum have positively impacted student learning and growth?

The school’s teaching methods and curriculum adopted by Impact Network have positively impacted students learning and growth because they are all learner centered and so they provide an opportunity for learners to have hands on learning as they learn by doing. To create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment for all students, I use visual aids, technology, interactions through pair work and group work in my lessons and teachings. I foster a love for learning in my students by always providing guidance and counselling and engaging parents by encouraging and sensitizing them on the importance of education.

As a teacher, what message or advice would you like to share with your students as they prepare to graduate and embark on their next journey?

I would like to advise them to work hard in academic and co-curricular activities for them to succeed in life!

Thank you, Madam Njobvu!
