Our boys clubs...
The transition to adulthood can be particularly challenging for boys, especially without opportunities to interact with peers and a trusted adult with whom they can discuss the changes they're experiencing. We introduced a Boys' Club to support upper primary male learners in our Impact Network schools during this critical period, to run alongside our Girls’ Clubs.
In Term 1 this year, Impact Network officially launched a Boys' Club in seven of our Katete West schools, following a successful pilot conducted in Term 3 last year. The primary goal of the Boys' Club in schools is to inspire and enable adolescent boys to realize their full potential, becoming productive and responsible members of society. The club focuses on developing social competence in boys through character and leadership development, health, and life skills programs, as well as education and career development.
The Boys' Clubs aim to raise awareness and provide a safe space for boys in grades 5-7 transitioning to adulthood. The club empowers them by offering a platform to open up and interact with peers through activities and lessons. This is done in a secure environment where boys can freely share their thoughts and experiences on topics such as decision-making, healthy lifestyle, relationships, and emotion management.
The Boys' Club meets once a week on Mondays and covers 10 lessons per term. These clubs are overseen male teachers at the schools who have received training from Impact Network. Their role involves creating a safe and welcoming environment and facilitating lessons that have engaging activities such as discussions, game, songs, stories, and role-plays.
We are pleased to provide these clubs for our students and grateful to the teachers who are compassionately educating these boys and guiding them to reach their full potential!
This week’s email comes from our Projects Officer, Elida Banda. Thank you, Elida!
